Swan River cruise operators and charter services have been urged to express their interest in access to a berth at the new jetty, near Optus Stadium.

The Department of Transport announced the opportunity for operators today, which would secure them one of three berths at Burswood Jetty when it opens in May.

The licence would allow a company to operate at the berth on major event days at Optus Stadium, with priority access at other times.

It would also provide revenue for the State Government to pay for jetty maintenance and operations.

Transport Minister Rita Saffioti said it was an outstanding business opportunity for tourism-based commercial vessel operators planning to expand their operations to include the new jetty.

“The proposed licence will maximise efficient use of the jetty structure while maintaining public safety during periods of peak demand,” she said.

“Burswood Jetty is an exciting project that provides a new on-water facility for public and commercial use, and offers another transport option for people accessing Optus Stadium and the surrounding precinct.”

The remaining two berths would be available to recreational and commercial craft on demand.

Expression of interest information packs can be obtained by contacting Department of Transport harbour manager Herman de Mello on (08) 9431 1023 or herman.demello@transport.wa.gov.au.

Applications close on May 17.
