Western Independent publishes news stories produced by journalism students at Curtin University, in Perth, the capital of Western Australia.
Curtin’s long-established journalism program has always had a student publication. For many years it was a newspaper that operated under various different masthead names including City Focus, Southern Focus and Fremantle Focus. It finally became Western Independent and switched from a newspaper to an online news site in 2015.
We welcome story submissions via email from Curtin journalism students and alumni.
