Police are on the hunt for a man who escaped from custody in Fremantle last night.

Danny Jay Brooks, 38, sparked a state-wide search after stealing and crashing a Toyota Aurion on Mandurah Road in Madora Bay about 11.50pm.

Mr Brooks is about 170cm tall, large build, pale-skinned, and has short blonde hair with a beard.

He was charged with aggravated armed robbery, stealing a motor vehicle, and breaching bail yesterday morning.

Mr Brooks escaped with a 29 year-old woman who has since been found by police.
