The Australian Bureau of Statistics denies claims that the Census is discriminatory towards remote Indigenous communities.
Many residents of communities have oral interviews with census employees, rather than filling out a form.
Sara Hudson from the Centre for Independent Studies says it’s patronising to assume that no-one in a remote community can read or write properly.

But David McHugh from the Australian Bureau of Statistics says extensive research, involving Indigenous Elders and community leaders has found the alternative method best.
