WA’s spud king Tony Galati opened the 11th Spudshed supermarket today in Spearwood on Rockingham Road.

To celebrate, the store planned to give away 100 tonnes of potatoes to customers.

Customers Marlene Johnson and Dot Newton said it was worth coming for the specials, despite the shop being busy.

“I’ll definitely come back again to have more of a look around.”

The new store is located on former IGA premises at the Stargate Shopping Centre in Spearwood and is open 24/7.

“I live right around the corner. It’s great because I can leave the kids at home and come here for easy shopping,” local mum Kristen Bifield said.

It marks a return to Spearwood for Mr Galati, who grew up on his family market nearby.
