Minor premiership to be decided in AFLW

The Western Bulldogs and Melbourne will battle it out for the AFLW minor premiership this Saturday at Whitten Oval in Melbourne.

Both teams have four wins leading into round seven, but Melbourne is coming off back-to-back victories while the Bulldogs were defeated in their last match.

The winner will progress to the grand final, which is scheduled to take place in Melbourne on March 24.

Western Bulldogs captain Katie Brennan is set to return for this weekend’s game after an ankle injury in Round Three against Carlton.

Melbourne will be missing defender Mel Hickey after she ruptured her ACL in last week’s match against Carlton, but will welcome back key forward Bianca Jakobsson.

Reining 2017 AFLW premiers Adelaide Crows are also considered a chance of making the grand final, while GWS Giants and Brisbane Lions are within striking distance.

Perth’s only AFLW team, the Fremantle Dockers, are out of contention, having only won two games this season. The Dockers sit seventh on the ladder.

Fremantle’s final match against Carlton will be held at Fremantle Oval this Saturday at 2.05pm.
