Star Fremantle ruckman Aaron Sandilands has signed a one-year contract extension that will keep him in purple until the end of 2017.

The 33-year-old, who sits third on the list of games played for Fremantle with 241 appearances, said that he was thrilled to be playing on in 2017.

“It’s great to be at the club for another 12 months,” Sandilands said in a statement.

“We’ve got a really strong group of players. Although the results aren’t going our way at the moment, I believe we’ll work through that and be better for it.”

Sandilands, who suffered a punctured lung in the defeat to West Coast earlier this season, said the decision to extend his contract was an easy one.

“I still love coming to the club every day, am still very passionate and enjoy my footy,” Sandilands said.

“I was really happy the club wanted me to go around again and I still believe I have a fair bit to contribute.”

Sandilands joined the club as a rookie in 2001 and is a four-time All Australian. He has won two Doig Medals.
