The first two permanent eateries at Elizabeth Quay open their doors today.

Perth burger chain V Burger Bar starts trading at Elizabeth Quay today as does The Reveley bar, a joint venture between the owners of The Stables Bar and the Brockwell Hotel Group.

The Reveley is named after civil engineer Henry Willey Reveley, who designed many of the public buildings in the Swan River Colony, most notably the Round House.

Function and events manager Lowri Hickman said staff were excited to be involved in one of the first venues at the quay.

“It’s been two-and-a-half, almost three years in the making, and I guess there’s been a lot of blood, sweat and tears go into it, so we’re very excited that we’re opening this morning as one of the first venues, it’s great,” she said.

Head chef Ben Keal wants to focus on local produce and the restaurant sources all of its ingredients from Western Australia.

Premier Colin Barnett said the opening of the two eateries at Elizabeth Quay came after the successful night noodle markets at the waterfront destination.

“About 100,000 people enjoyed the hawker-style markets over the two weeks they were open,” he said.

And during these school holidays, it is expected 4,000 visitors a day will go to the quay and see the Brick Man Lego-based experience.”

Planning Minister Donna Faragher said the opening of the first two permanent food and beverage outlets at Elizabeth Quay were significant milestones in the continued growth and development of the precinct as a tourist destination.

“Elizabeth Quay has attracted a significant number of visitors since it opened two months ago and these new eateries are a welcome addition and will undoubtedly enjoy strong patronage,” Mrs Faragher said.

“In the next few months, these new operators will be joined by Gusto Gelato and the Isle of Voyage.”

While there may be some concerns that Elizabeth Quay will draw people away from South Perth, Brett Walker, the owner of Mister Walker next to the Mends St Jetty believes development at the quay will be a positive.

“It will create a new destination for Perth and will hopefully encourage people to go out more,” he said.

“From my point of view, I’m lucky that being on the south, and on the jetty, that the usage of the ferry will increase which means that there’s more potential that visitors might stop at my restaurant on the way over, or on the way back.”
