A man had to be cut from his car after hitting four parked cars and crashing into a tree during a police pursuit in Perth’s northern suburbs last night.

Police spokeswoman Susan Usher said the 31-year-old Alexander Heights man failed to stop for police at the intersection of Mirrabooka Avenue and Marangaroo Drive in Girrawheen about 9.35pm last night.

“The Ford Falcon XR6 struck three civilian vehicles and struck a fourth vehicle when the Ford went on to the incorrect side of Karrinyup road in Balcatta,” Ms Usher said.

All four cars were damaged but none of the drivers were hurt.

The 20-minute police chase ended when the driver lost control of his car and crashed into a tree at Clarko Reserve in Trigg.

The man was then cut from his car and taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Trigg resident Ben Grummels, who lives near Clarko Reserve , said the combination of wet roads and high speed resulted in “quite a severe” impact.

“We heard a really loud noise last night, followed shortly by an unmarked police car,” he said.

“Ten more police cars then followed to the scene of the crash.”

The driver, a 31-year-old Alexander Heights man, has been charged with reckless driving to escape pursuit, refusal of a blood test, failing to stop, no authority to drive and failing to stop when called upon.

A bedside hearing will take place today at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital.
