A Cooloongup man was shot in the leg during a home invasion early this morning.

Police said several people shot the 31-year-old man in the leg after entering his home about 2am. They escaped in a vehicle.

The man was admitted to Royal Perth Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Neighbours, who said the area was usually quiet, woke to the sound of screams. Some thought the noise was being made by children.

“We heard screams and bangs. It woke us up so we called the police and we were very frightened,” one couple, who did not want to be named, said.

Colleen Ries, who lives a few doors down from the injured man, said the incident had frightened her.

According to WA police statistics, Cooloongup has seen a decrease in burglaries and home invasions over the past 2 years.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
