Free concerts at State Theatre Courtyard

Local musicians and DJs including Abbe May, Hideous Sun Demon and Claire Hodgson will open the first of eight free music events held at the State Theatre Courtyard in October.

Culture and the Arts Minister John Day this morning announced many of Perth’s top musicians and DJs would perform at the venue’s Courtyard Club every Friday from October 31st until late December.

RTRFM local DJ Claire Hodgson, who will be opening the event on Halloween with a spooky mix of soul and garage, said she was excited to perform at the venue.

“I think it’s great that RTR have secured the State Theatre space. It’s really awesome area, it’s so central and it’s really conducive to live music,” she said.

RTRFM general manager Jason Cleary said the event was designed to showcase Perth’s art and music in a different setting.

“I think it’s an amazing venue….it’s a great way to lead into the festival season,” he said.

“The whole thing is going to be a pretty amazing set up, eight weeks under the stars in an outdoor space, it’ll be something a bit different, but cool too.”

Mr Day said in a statement the series was a testament to WA’s support of the local arts community.

“This is an exciting and new entertainment initiative for the Perth Theatre Trust,” he said.

“I am delighted that the State Theatre Centre will be involved in the festival atmosphere this year.”

RTRFM will broadcast each event live until the final in the series on December 19th.
