Perth has won the bid against Poland to host the 2016 World’s Masters Athletics Championships.
The games are expected to boost Western Australia’s tourism by showcasing 5,000 athletes, their supporters and the city.
The two-week long championships will contribute up to $31 million to the economy.
The events director of Newscorp GLENN HAMILTON says the athletes tend to train hard in the lead-up to the championships and then stay in the country for a holiday.
