Fire has destroyed a Balcatta townhouse this morning.

Firefighters battled the blaze from midnight at the Department of Housing property on Barker street.

Despite the fire engulfing the building, firefighters prevented it from spreading and saved neighbouring homes.

Department of Fire and Emergency Services investigators will analyse the scene this morning.
