Perth Salvation Army major Geoff Freind has died from his injuries after he was attacked on the streets of Malawi on the weekend.
The 59-year-old Morley man was on a preaching tour in the African country when he was assulted while walking from his hotel to a shopping centre.
He was flown to Johannesburg and placed in an induced coma, but passed away on Wednesday.
Mr Freind’s wife and four sons flew to South Africa to be by his side. They described him as a “dearly loved” man.
“Lyn Freind, sons Ashley, Steven, Nathan, Samuel and the entire family are mourning the death of their dearly loved husband, father, son, brother and Grandad,” they said in a statement.
“The family wish to give their thanks to God and the many people who have given support to Geoff and the family during this time.”
