Man shot dead in Sydney shopping centre

A 40-year-old man has died and two people have been injured after being shot at Bankstown Central Shopping Centre in Sydney.

NSW Police found the 40-year-old man with “critical gunshot wounds”.

The man died at the scene despite receiving treatment from police and ambulance staff.

A 60-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman received injuries to the lower leg.

Bankstown Police Supt. David Eardley said it was not a random assault.

“Clearly, it’s concerning any time people have a want to go and use firearms to settle a dispute,” he said.

“What I can say about this incident, it’s clearly targeted.

“This isn’t a random shooting, it is clearly targeted towards the man who has died as a result of the gunshot wounds.”

He said the shooter was not alone and a white Mercedes was found burnt in the Green Acre area.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
