40,000 attend Perth dawn service

Up to 40,000 people braved cold and rainy weather to attend the Anzac Day dawn service at Kings Park this morning.

Stormy weather was forecast for the early morning, but that didn’t seem to affect the turnout as thousands gathered at the State War Memorial to pay their respects.

Groups laid wreaths on the memorial as the Flame of Remembrance continued to burn in the spirit of Anzac on the 101st anniversary of the landing at Gallipoli.

The ceremony started at 6am and was broadcast across Kings Park on four large screens.

The Australian Defence Force parade started at 9am in Barrack St.
