Prescribed burns blanket Perth in smoke

Bushfire smoke reduced visibility on the Kwinana Freeway this morning as the Department of Parks and Wildlife continued prescribed burns across Perth.

The department said the burns reduced the severity of bushfires by reducing fuel loads in forests, parks and national reserves.

There were 24 active burns by the department at different locations today.

Department of Fire and Emergency Services media liaison officer Mark Graham said conditions for burn-offs were ideal at this time of the year.

“It makes our job a lot easier if they have reduced the fuel loads in those bushfire areas,” Mr Graham said.

Information on bushfire alerts, prescribed burns and bushfire preparation can be found on the DPAW website.
