Kwinana Fish & Chips destroyed by fire

A burglary and fire that destroyed Kwinana Fish & Chips in Orelia Shopping Centre this morning was the shop’s third incident in the past ye.

Department of Fire and Emergency Services crews were called about 1:25am and firefighters worked until after 2am to extinguish the blaze.

Owner Nick Philips said he received a phone call at 2:30am to tell him there had been a fire at the shop.

“They stole about $140 in cash out the til, a charity tin for fundraising, then burnt the shop down,” Mr Phillips said.

“We’ve had a run of bad luck. We’ve been in business nine years and in the last 12 months we’ve been broken into once, and we had a customer drive through the shop.”

Mr Phillips’ wife Shona said the damage and loss of stock would cost them more than $150,000.

“We just went and spent $600 on stock yesterday and we had a delivery the day beforehand of $2000 dollars worth of stock,” Ms Phillips said.

Arson Squad investigators attended the scene in the morning but the cause remains unknown.

Anyone with information about the incident should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
