Who’s that behind the face tat?

Facial tattoos make a person stand out from the crowd.

For many tattoo artists it’s a big deal to tattoo someone’s face and not something to be taken lightly.

Many artists uphold self-imposed ethical guidelines and do not tattoo a customer’s face unless much of the customer’s body has already been inked.

Ned Harrington from the Ink Garage in Como says sharing photographs of tattoos on social media has played a big part in the increase in face and neck tattoos.

“Also, TV shows have glorified the criminal and gangster look, and people are trying to take that image on,” Mr Harrington says.

Four tattoo artists questioned by InkWire say they offer advice before tattooing a person’s face, asking them to think before they ink.

But one artist said the decision to get his own face tattooed was not such a big deal …
