A 39-year-old man has been charged after allegedly setting fire to a Two Rocks house overnight, causing more than $500,000 damage.
Clarkson Police were called to the property on Sovereign Drive about 11.50pm and the Department of Fire and Emergency Services was alerted at 11.56pm.
A DFES spokeswoman said 13 fire trucks from stations at Butler, Joondalup and Osborne Park were sent.
The blaze was brought under control just before 1am, but firefighters were unable to save the home.
A WA Police arson squad spokesman said the damage caused by the fire was “expected to exceed $600,000”.
“It would appear a majority of the structure and all of the contents have been destroyed,” he said.
“It will have to be demolished.”
A man was later arrested close to the scene with items of interest in his possession. He was charged with causing criminal damage by fire, burglary and stealing. The man was remanded in custody and is due to appear in court later today.
The resident of the home is a fly-in, fly-out worker. He is expected to arrive back in Perth shortly.
