DANIELLE LE MESSURIER
This photograph of Evans was taken on Wellington Street in the Perth CBD on May 18 this year.
It was one of nine photographs I took that day for a photo brief on the proposed ban on begging in central Perth.
Evans approaches people by asking if they can spare a dollar for his cause and passing on his business card, which reads: ‘open hearts and helping hands: making the homeless smile’.
He said he did his best to get off the streets when he could afford hostels.
This shot was taken a few minutes after a lady stopped to give Evans the pictured dollar coin.
This photo is one in a series of Perth hotshots – a selection of photojournalism by students at Curtin University in the Western Australian state capital of Perth.
