Home grown success

The popularity of the Home Grown Festival in Perth’s CBD has seen it extended until the end of the year.

Taking place from 11am-4pm every Sunday in Forrest Place, the Home Grown Festival offers fresh and organic produce from farms around Perth.

The market stalls change each week, and also sell condiments, oils, teas, plants and handmade gifts.

Perth Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi today said the festival was now regularly attracting high numbers of locals, students and visitors and would be continued until Christmas.

She said shoppers were looking for locally grown, affordable food.

“I think Perth people are a lot more aware these days of the quality and range of produce that’s available and experimenting with ingredients more,” Ms Scaffidi said.

Local artist Rebecca Rhode said she attended the festival every Sunday for the handmade art and crafts.

“I think it’s really good to showcase what Perth has to offer and it’s a great way to support the local community,” Ms Rhode said.

Student Daniel Roberts said the food was the main attraction.

“The prices are really good and as a student I can get good, organic fruit and vegies at a much cheaper rate than the supermarkets,” he said.

The markets will next open on June 1.
