Women can shear sheep too!

Tarryn Gray, 21, is a part of a growing, new generation of female shearers. She lives at a farm in Kirup, south Western Australia, with her mum and dad, Sue and Greg. When she was 12, Greg taught her to shear a sheep and since then, she has dedicated her working life to it. Tarryn proves that women are capable of shearing sheep in a male-dominated world.

“All it takes is believing in yourself,” she says.

While the Australian wool industry experienced difficult economic conditions during the “great wool depression” in the 1990s, there has been a rising demand for wool in the past few years as Chinese demand continues. Today, WA does not have enough shearers to cope with the demand.
