Lathlain Park is set to become the new home of the West Coast Eagles after the State Government today announced it had set aside $10 million for re-development of the area.

The money will be used to provide new administration and training facilities for the Eagles, as well as facilities for the public and local sporting clubs.

Lathlain Park has been the home ground of Perth Football Club since 1959.

Perth chief executive officer Martin Atkins said he was eager for the building to start.

“Overall, the whole re-development of Lathlain will give the community a real uplift in respect for community activities,” Atkins said.

Atkins also said the changes would provide the community of Lathlain with valuable facilities.

“Transformation of this site is going to be fantastic,” he said.

Premier Colin Barnett said the funding would help pay for a second playing surface, lighting, a two-lane running track, a tennis court and a playground.

“The State Government has a proud history supporting community sport in Western Australia, including football, and this funding will help the town build a first-class sport and recreation facility for its residents,” Mr Barnett said.

Mr Barnett said the $10 million would be provided over four years. Construction is expected to start at the end of the 2016 WAFL season.
