WA has missed out on new Federal Government funding for railways in the Budget.

New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, South Australia and Tasmania were all allocated substantial funding towards rail infrastructure.

Labor’s WA senior vice-president Tim Hammond said the Budget had not provided infrastructure funding for WA.

“Not only have we been badly let down in relation to a complete absence of support for infrastructure funding, we see the same old cuts delivered by Tony Abbott appearing in this Budget.” he said.

WA Labor Leader Mark McGowan said WA was being ignored.

“Infrastructure is the real crying need in WA. We need to make sure we can cope with the long-term population and economic needs of our state,” he said.

“I would love to see major new funding for the circle route here from Thornlie to South Lake for the extention out to Byford, Yanchep and Ellenbrook.

“All of these should be on the Federal Government’s radar but they are not.”

Federal Treasurer Scott Morrison said in his Budget speech there would be funding for the Perth Freight Link.

Premier Colin Barnett said last year the project would result in improved safety for all road users, reduce traffic congestion, and reduce the number of trucks on urban roads.

Greens Senator Scott Ludlam said there were viable alternatives to the Perth Freight Link.
