Postcard Bandit to be extradited to WA

Notorious bank robber Brenden Abbott will be extradited to Western Australia.

The bank robber-turned-prison-escapee, dubbed the Postcard Bandit, was released from a Queeensland jail on parole last month.

WA sought his return to face a charge of escaping from prison with more than eight years remaining on his sentence for armed robbery offences.

If convicted he faces up to 16 years in jail in WA.

The 53-year-old is one of the best known criminals in Australian history, escaping from not only Fremantle Prison in 1989 but also from Queensland’s Sir David Longland Prison in 1997.
