Retired Police Commissioner Brian Bull says he is “completely shattered” after his Swan View home was broken into overnight.

Mr Bull told reporters this afternoon he and his wife returned from shopping to find the back window of their house had been smashed and the home burgled.

One of the items stolen from the house was a plaque from the WA Police Union containing the badge Mr Bull was presented as a young constable. Several medals, a St John Ambulance badge, and a lifesaving badge were also taken.

Mr Bull said the plaque meant a great deal to him, and that he was very proud of what he had achieved as a police officer and as Police Commissioner.

Mr Bull, who joined the police as a cadet in 1949 and retired in 1994, was commissioner for almost 10 years.

“I know, having been a police officer for so long and a detective for so many years, the effect that it has on people,” he says.

“I was so shattered, even though I know it happens to so many people. I can’t be normal as I normally am because I’m the victim, and my wife is the victim.”
