Residents living below a line from Albany to Katanning to Israelite Bay should brace for wild weather.

The Bureau of Meteorology has his afternoon issued a severe weather warning for the area, urging residents to tie down loose items around the house and stay indoors.

Earlier today the bureau issued a severe weather warning for areas from Bunbury to Albany with a cold front moving through this morning.

Meteorologist Stephanie Bond said winds were expected to reach 90km per hour.

“We currently have a cold front approaching the south west coast,” she said.

“[The storm] could bring damaging winds that could bring damage to homes and property in localised areas.”

Heavy rainfall has also hit parts of the South-West overnight, with Walpole, 120km West of Albany, recording 23mm and Pickering Brook recording 34mm over the past 24 hours.

Residents are being warned to tie down any loose items because of strong winds.

Ms Bond said damaging winds were expected to ease from 11am.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services has warned residents to stay inside and away from windows, and to use sandbags to protect their homes if flooding occurs.

North of Perth, Yanchep beach has been closed because of strong rips.
