Department of Immigration and Border Protection workers at Perth International Airport have launched strike action at peak travel times.

Community and Public Sector Union national secretary Nadine Flood has called on the new Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull to make the issues of workers’ rights, conditions and take home pay a public service priority.

The strike action is planned to occur during peak periods at the airport, starting at 5.30am and ending at 7.30am.

The latest action for Perth started on September 16 and is expected to remain in force until Saturday.

Previous strike action occurred in June, July and August this year.

In a statement, the Department of Immigration and Border Protection said industrial action was occurring as employees of the department voted on a proposed enterprise agreement, due to be completed today.

The previous enterprise agreement expired more than a year ago.

Today, some travellers experienced delays at the airport.

Megan Loneragan waited for more than an hour for the arrival of her sister this morning.

“I was here last week and that only took 10 minutes, but it’s longer today,” Mrs Loneragan said.

Karinda Mills was leaving for a trip to Bali with her mother Janet and sister Casey.

Miss Mills said they experienced no delay apart from a long line checking in and everyone was very helpful.

Perth is not the only airport affected by the strike action, with reports of delays at Brisbane, Sydney, Cairns, Darwin, Melbourne and Adelaide airports.
