A male cyclist has died after his bike hit a car this morning in Riverton.

He was rushed to Fiona Stanley Hospital, but died shortly after arriving.

Jeff Nicolson, who saw the crash while working at a building site, said the road was unsafe.

“I watched them doing CPR…it’s a dangerous situation, traffic just flies through here,” he said.

“I’ve seen five crashes since I’ve been here for the last six months…and now we’ve got a fatality.”

Sgt. Dave Magorian said the major crash squad would investigate the incident and was seeking witnesses to assist with their inquiries.

High Road westbound was closed for several hours from Willeri Drive to Granville Way and traffic was diverted through the Riverton Leisureplex car park.

The death of the cyclist took WA’s road toll to 45 and came after a horror weekend in which four people were killed in three separate accidents.
