Why BBC News is a top site for journalism students

Global blog

The BBC is the largest broadcasting organisation in the world. Its mission is to enrich people’s lives with programs that inform, educate and entertain.

Well, the BBC news site is the solution for the news addict, for the news-craving people or for simply keeping in touch with what is happening around us.

The website is quite appealing and very user-friendly. Its content is updated every hour so it is quite a useful source of information.

I was introduced to the BBC website just a couple of years ago as I had current affairs quiz every week as a component of a journalism unit; I can say that the BBC news site helped a lot, if not to say, saved me!

The homepage is loaded with pictures and slide shows, which give the reader a quick overview of what is happening; so the news consumer selects the story that relates more to him or her.

Skimming the page is usually quick and easy. On the right side of the website, there are links to the top five articles based on readership or number of comments.

Moreover, the website allows users to select news based on their area, for example BBC AFRICA, which proves to be useful for someone wanting to have a grab on news.

For the technologically savvy, travellers, culture whiz and businesspeople, the website also offers pages that broadcast stories based on these themes.

I actually browse their sports page multiple times a day just to keep abreast of the sport news and football players transfers. It also provides versions of the website in various languages and as I am more at ease with the French language, it helped me a lot to understand some articles.

In brief most audiences can be satisfied with the news site and find articles that suit their needs.
